Home Game & Some Ring

I played in my Thursday night deepstack $100 NLHE live game tourney tonight and busted 1 before the final table. I really shouldnt have busted that early as I made a stupid play at the end. I had about 7200 in tourney chips, we started with 7000, blinds were 350/700 with a 150 ante and I picked up 66 in fairly early position and moved in. Got called by TT, T on the flop I was out. One other interesting hand when i had about 6000 in chips I picked up 2 black aces and there was a call and a 5x reraise in front of me. I pushed in for about double the last guys raise and he instacalls, shows two red aces! Doh. Aces vs Aces, chop chop.

I came home and played some 3 tables of $5/$10 and 1 $10/$20 for about an hour and ended up +9bb at the $10/$20 table and +11.5BB at the $5/$10 tables good for + $295 hour session, very nice.

I'm a retard

I played some fairly high limit HU limit today and lost my ass off. I ended up getting back to my normal games of $5/$10 and a lil $10/$20 and made back most of it, but ended the night down $127 plus lost $11 buyin to the Negreanu Open. Was in great shape to final table, but busted 22nd when my Trip aces went down to Tens full of Aces.

Sweeet, Free Nickelback Concert Tickets

Was driving in to work this morning dropping my daughter off to school as usual and heard the 'keytones' on a local radio station. Tried calling in to the hotline and was busy the first 4 times then it started ringing on the 5th try. It rang for a good 2 or 3 minutes and they picked up. Turns out I was caller #9 and won 2 free tickets to the Nickelback concert coming to Nashville in about 2 weeks. Sweet! My wife and I love Nickelback.

Bar League Games and Some $5/$10

So I played my 2 Monday Night Bar League Games.

First game I finished 3rd of 31 and went out to the almighty Krablar. I had AQ in the cutoff and pushed and was called by K3s, the blinds where pretty high. Flop 256 turn 6 river 4! omg!

You think thats bad? Wait til you hear this one.

2nd game 33 people. The last hand before the first hour break I pick up 9 hearts 9 diamonds on the button. 200/400 blinds I raise to 1200 with 99 and get called by the BB. Flop 3 clubs 7 diamonds 9 spades . Remembering I raised preflop the BB bets 1200 into me, I've got top set and have about 6000 left, he has 9000. I push for some odd reason and he calls with 7 clubs q queen clubs; 2nd pair for all his chips! Turn 2 clubs river 8 clubs and he runner runner flushes me when I am the 95% flop favorite, SIIIIIIIIIIICCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKK

I 5 tables $5/$10 when I got home for about an hour and won 28bb for $287.

Suckers Bet?

OK I am either going to be $1000 richer, break even, or lose $1100 as I am falling for one of those 'too good to be true' promotions.

Mansion.com which is a very well known online sports book is running a promotion for the opening Pittsburgh/Dolphins game. It is a no lose promotion. You must bet $1100 on the line (currently at -4.5) to win $1000. You win the bet you take you $1000, you lose the bet they refund your $1100.

I have read 3 or 4 website reviews on Mansion.com and came up with nothing, but excellent reviews. I talked to their support just to make sure there werent any catches I was missing like cashout/withdraw restrictions, etc, but as long as you fax/email them your ID there are no other restrictions.

There is also a way to hedge this bet with another sports book to guarantee a win of $442 between the two sites. So the question is do I want 100% of $442 or flip a coin for a little over double or nothing. Well I'm a gambler and doing double or nothing. GO STEELERS! Win by 5 points baby!

I really hope I dont post after the game saying how I got scammed, but all my 'research' makes me think this is a just a fantastic promotion where they are taking a 50/50 shot on getting a bunch of new customers that have the ability to deposit $1100 into their account. *Fingers Crossed*

Some $5/$10 SHLHE

I 2 tabled some $5/$10 Short handed Limit Hold Em for about 3 hours and ended up 41 BB for $414. Made the weekend disaster ONLY $1000 down instead of the $2000 I was down after Saturday night.

I'm taking the rest of the night off and taking me wife to see two movies tonight, World Trade Center followed by Invincible.

Gonna shake this weekend off and be happy I am still up $1500 for the month. Positive Positive Positive.

Variance Smacked Me In The Face And It Hurt

Meh. Played about 30 table hours of poker on Saturday and just got my ass kicked big time. I lost over 100BBs between the $10/$20 and $5/$10 tables on Saturday. Sunday I made up a little bit, but still down $1441 for the weekend. I wont go into all the bad beats, but it was beyond ridiculous, AA never held up for me once out of 4 times and I couldnt hit a set or a flush draw to save my life while it seemed everytime I had the goods someone hit their draws on me.

As much as I hate it I am going to have to stay away from the $10/$20 tables for awhile and just stick with $5/$10 max for now.

Live Home Game and Some $5/$10

I played in a $100 buyin live tournament game tonight with 17 people. Great great great players, 4th hand of the tournament I had TT flop 338 turn T river 9, guy had quad 3s against my top full house and crippled me early. I made it to the final table and busted to a 3 outter when I got my money in with QQ vs AQ but an Ace on the flop killed me. I was short stacked and bb next hand so pushes last few chips in with 33 and called by 77 and never improved. Was actuallly a really great game with an amazing structure, played over 4 hours. One of the guys there finished in top 500 of the WSOP ME this year and in top 100 of another WSOP even this year.

I came home and 5 tabled some $5/$10 for about an hour and won 25BB. $250 to the bankroll. I am actually not pulling the $100 I played tonight from my roll since I paid for that with money not in my normal bankroll.

Meh Myspace Smyspace

Apparently all the 'cool kids' have myspace accounts. I'm gonna have to get my daughter to help me with mine cause its all confusing, but I just started a page.

The URL is at http://www.myspace.com/dnapoker

I also played a little pokah during my lunch break cause I've got the evil fix thing going on. Finished up +2.5 BB at SHLHE $5/$10 for $25.

I'm playing in a live home game tonight, 20 person $100 buyin tourney, pays 3 spots, VERY SWEET structure so I am looking forward to it.

8000 starting chips starting out with 25/25 blinds going to 25/50, 50/100 75/150 100/200 etc 1st two hours 30 min levels, rest 20 minute levels. I am looking forward to it.

Finished 20th of 165 in Neg O, Good Ring Session

Played the Negreanu Open and finished 20th out of 165 good for jack squat! Busted with QK vs AK, King high board.

I played a few table hours 3 tabling $5/$10 and 1 tabling $10/$20 and ended up +10BB at the $10/$20 table and +30bb at the $5/$10 tables, pretty great session actually, 2 hours of play so about 8 table hours + $502

Sooooooo close to a big score 20th/735 in $20 rebuy

Just played the FCP $20K guarantee, $20 with 1 rebuy and 1 addon. I made it through the first hour without a rebuy, but did the addon so had $42 invested. 735 players and I made it down to the final 2 tables and busted 20th when shortstacked and my AT ran into the blinds AK. $181 for nearly 5 hours, meh. 1st was just 19 spots away and paid $6000. GRRRRRRR!

I also played some $5/$10 before the tourney and made almost 23BB there for $227. Made nearly $50 more in 1/3rd the time in the cash game, sick. Gotta final table to make some real cash. That $6000 would have tripled my roll, but meh, next time?

Bar Leage Games

Meh, both games last night I got my money in good only to get sucked out on.

First game I finished 11th of 42 when I got a free look in the BB with Q3o, flop AQ3, guy pushed with A5 on the flop, but caught A on the river.

Second game I finished 45 of 49 when I flopped a 7 high flush, and pushed a guy who called with the Ace of that suit and hit the 4 board flush on the turn.

I played about 30 minutes of $5/$10 last night and won $30.

I played in the $50 + $4 Long Kiss Goodnight and lost when I flopped top 2 and guy flopped bottom set, what ya gonna do!

After taken a number of stupid bad beats I managed to toss back 10 BB at the 10/20 game and 9bb at the 5/10 game for a $282 loss. I easily played 15 table hours yesterday.

Switched it up - Some NL Cash

After taking about a 30bb hit at $3/$6 short handed limit($180) I took a break and then decided to switch it up a little and play some NL. I immediately lost $100 when I flopped Aces with AJ on a AQ3 board, turn brought another Queen and I ended up laying it down after the guy pushed after I made a 3/4 pot bet. Was playing $200 NL btw.

So now I'm down $280, wonderful.

I stayed at the table and played patient and got a BIGGGG break when I raised it to $6 with AQ and guy made it $25, I honestly dont play much NL Cash so not sure if this was an incorrect call, but I called, it was HU. Flop comes QQA and I check, the guy pushes all in. I'm thinking AA is possible since he reraised to $25, but figure I'll go broke here everytime if hes dumb enough to push 2 times the pot with the nuts so I call like $80 more. He shows 33! That put me up about $120 and I continued to grind on and ended up + $223 at that table which was sweeet!

Bar League Tournament

Last night I played in 2 of the weekly local bar league live games. Both tournaments only had about 35 people.

The first game I thought I was going to repeat my victory from last week, but got unlucky towards the end when the blinds went up really high. It got down to 4 handed and I called a shortstacks all in with A9 spades, he flips over Q8 spades, but hits an 8 on the turn and doubles up. About 3 hands later I complete in the SB with QKo and BB checks HU. Flop 78K. I check, she pushes, has me covered by 1000 and I call. She turns over JQ hearts, two hearts on the flop. Heart on the river and I was out in 4th.

Second game I got crippled about an hour in when my JA with J high on the board took a hit to pocket Queens. I played patient and picked up AQ clubs and pushed, got 2 callers which both had me covered. They turn over A6 and QK, great shape to triple up and put me back in the hunt. Flop 788, turn 9, river T. Meh! Out in 19th.

Even though I have only played in this league for 2 weeks I'm in the top 15 out of about 100 that have points. Going to keep playing it for awhile cause its pretty fun to play live, even though there is no money at stake.

He Giveth and He Taketh Away

I played the $100+$8 US Grand Prix $50K tourney yesterday and busted 92nd, just 30 shy of the money. Was in the BB with AJ and it folded to the SB who raised, I pushed, he called with QK, flop QQx, end of game. GRRRRR so close.

I then proceeded to 4 table some $5/$10 and played for a good 3 or 4 hours and lose 31bb, -$312.

First $1000 day this year

I've made like 3 or 4 blog entries today out of excitement.

Sat down at a $5/$10 short handed table for about an hour and made 17BB good for $177.

That puts me up $1031 in the last 24 hours.

Havent had a $1000 day in limit quite possibly ever. Nearly doubled my bankroll in 1 day which is just a run of good luck and positive variance.

Current BR - $2330

Man oh Man

I'm getting the $ fever which is not really a good thing. I've had a $1000 week so I can feel the potentials of whats possible out there, but I am trying to stay focused on bets instead of $.

Just 4 tabled some $3/$6 which is in my bankroll now! and won $192 after about 3 hours of play.

Current BR - $2153

Took another shot

The last 2 days I couldnt get out of my head that $10/$20 session and been battling if I wanted to give it another shot or not.

I decided I would play with $500 and see how I did. This time I played the full ring game instead of the short handed game to help limit variance a little bit.

I played a full ring $5/$10 at the same time I was playing the $10/$20 and after about another 4 hours between the two tables I managed to score a $520 win.

I really cant wait to get my bankroll back to the point where I can play this level again and not have to worry about a few bad beats or downswing kicking my entire bankroll.

Current BR - $1951

Grind Grind Grind

Played another 4 hours of $3/$6 short handed last night. I really love and hate this game. Patience and the ability not to react tilty to bad beats is the biggest lessons I have learned in this game. All it takes is 2 or 3 hands of tilt and you can find yourself down $100 real quick.

I played very patient and was about to win 22BB after the 4 hours so good for $132.

Four hours of $10/$20 Short Handed

"If you're too careful, your whole life can become a fuckin' grind."

I took a stab at some higher limits like I am known to do from time to time and ended up losing about 15BB after 4 hours of play which really isnt too terrible.

I wont go into the bad beats, but they were a plenty, at least 6 times I was beat by runner runner and several times I just had good hands that were beat by better hands like straights into flushes, etc.

A couple rivers different and I would have easily been up 20 - 30 BB in that game.

Unfortunately I dont have the bankroll to continue to play that game, but I am fairly certain I can beat it, at least beat the players that I was playing against last night.

$290 dent in the ole bankroll and back to the $2/$4 $3/$6 limits.

Nice Variance Upswing

Played a $10 MTT and made it down to final 100 out of 400 when I busted with AQ into AA.

I put $200 down on a $3/$6 short handed table and had a nice hour session up $162. Hit a set and a straight and a nut flush which all paid well.

Yes Gary I shouldnt be playing 3/6 quite yet, especially shorthanded, but meh.

Tennessee Rounders

A few months ago I posted that I played in this local bar league called the Tennessee Rounders. Its a Monday night tournament with 2 games, 6:30 and 9:00. I went last night and it was week 4 of a 8 week leaderboard so didnt really have much of a shot to compete, but I ended up finishing 14th in the first tournament and 1st in the 2nd tournament so got 540 points which was good enough to put me in the top 20 out of over 100 so I guess I will start playing this on Mondays now.

Won $40 playing a little $2/$4 shorthanded as well.

Good Run + Bonus

Played about 1300 hands of $2/$4 multi tabling and won $230 plus cleared $100 bonus on FCP.

I played in a $30 MTT and was knocked out in first 10 minutes when I raised it up with AKs flop 35K rainbow, bet half the pot guy pushed and I called. He showed 46! WTF called 3x with 46 then pushes with open ended. Turn blank and river brought the 2. Whatever!

Up $300 so not gonna whine too much.

Going to pick the kids up this weekend from their grandparents. Been kidless for the past 3 weeks and starting to miss em. Taking them to an amusement park called Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana on Sunday so will be gone for the rest of the weekend.

Found $100 - Cool

I logged onto PartyPoker just curious if they had any bonuses going on and I found $101 in my account. I know it was down to $1 the last time I logged in like 6 months ago. Sometimes they give you money if you rake certain hands or what not, but I checked and I had no opt in bonuses, pending bonuses, or hands to clear. Very strange. Either I left $100 on there and forgot about it or it was magic. Either way I cashed that out real quick.

I played in the Negreanu Open last night and finished 20 something when my top pair of queens got beat by a runner runner straight

I then played the $50 midnight oil tournament and was doing pretty good, down to 55 out of 150 with almost double average, but I got trapped with my QQ, a guy limped in with Kings, board came all low, rainbow, and no sense of connection. I check raised the guy and he pushed. At first I was thinking a set, but turns out he had Kings, meh STOP LIMPING WITH KK PEOPLE!

I played some more $2/$4 and won about $30. Adding that $100 to my BR as well.

Livin It Up

This is the last week without the kids, they have been at their grandparents for the past 2 weeks so my wife and I have been going out just about every night to bars, movies, dinners, etc.

Last night we went to have a nice Filet Mignon steak dinner with some Margaritas followed by the Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

Today is my birthday so we got a couple bottles of wine and going to hang out at the house. I will probably play the Negreanu Open tonight.

This weekend we are going to pick up the kids and take them to an amusement park in Indiana called Holiday World which supposedly has a kickass Water Park.

I played a few hours of $2/$4 in the last few days and up about $35 since my last post.
